Welcome to Stampin’ Up Color Challenge Week 2 here at Purty ParTAY! Each Tuesday, I randomly select three colors from my DIY Color Coach and share a creative card using them. You’re invited to join in the fun—and you might even win some happy mail!
🎨 This week’s color combo:
- Coastal Cabana
- Daffodil Delight
- Pretty in Pink
These cheerful, summery shades are perfect for adding brightness to any handmade card. My project for Stampin’ Up Color Challenge Week 2 leans into bold layering, mixed textures, and a splash of playful bling.

💌 Stampin’ Up Color Challenge Week 2 – Project Preview
To kick off the challenge, I created a bold, layered tag card using the Paper Tags Bundle and one of my favorite background dies—Pattern of Friendship. I used the background die in two directions to create a faux plaid effect, then added dimension, texture, and ribbon for a sweet, gift-like focal point.

👉 Want to make one too? I created a FREE step-by-step tutorial to help you recreate this exact design, including detailed instructions, paper measurements, die numbers, and my layering tricks.

- Basic Black Cardstock – Tag layer (Die 1, 3″ x 4.5″) + small tag border (Die 5, 3″ x 2″)
- Basic White Cardstock –
- 2.5″ x 4″ for stamping/die cutting the Sunshine & Laughter tag (Die 2)
- Scrap for “YOUR DAY” sentiment (stamped in Pretty in Pink and fussy cut)
🛠️ Stamps & Dies

✂️ Behind the Design
Here are a few highlights from the tutorial:
- Faux Plaid Background: I die cut the Pattern of Friendship Die horizontally and vertically on the Coastal Cabana layer to create a woven effect. Then I distressed the edges with a bone folder for extra texture.
- Layered Tags: The Pretty in Pink and Basic Black tags are layered using clever cutting and spacing so the black peeks out like a frame.
- Sentiment Magic: The “Sunshine & Laughter” tag (Die 2) is stamped in Daffodil Delight, and I popped on a fussy-cut “YOUR DAY” in Pretty in Pink.
- Ribbon Trick: The tag is tied like a present using the heart-shaped opening—such a fun way to use that die!
Don’t forget to stamp the back of your card with my favorite sentiment from this set: “Consider this a Paper Hug”
